Send a Funny or Uplifting Message to a Friend Who is Going Through a Hard Time
This one is a true story. (I’m not crying; you’re crying.)
Claire had been feeling miserable for days, coughing and sneezing and aching all over. She missed her mom, who lived in another state and couldn't visit her often because of the distance. She wished she could curl up in her mom's arms and listen to her soothing voice, like she used to when she was a little girl. She picked up her phone and dialed her mom's number, hoping she would answer.
"Hi, honey, how are you?" her mom said cheerfully.
"Hi, mom, I'm not so good. I have the flu," she said weakly.
"Oh, no, I'm so sorry to hear that. How bad is it?"
"It's pretty bad. I have a fever, a sore throat, a headache, and I can't stop coughing."
"Have you seen a doctor?"
"Yes, I went to the clinic yesterday. They gave me some medicine and told me to rest and drink lots of fluids."
"That's good. Are you taking care of yourself?"
"I'm trying, mom, but it's hard. I feel so lonely and miserable."
"Oh, honey, I wish I could be there with you. You know I love you so much."
"I love you too, mom. You always make me feel better."
"Is there anything I can do for you? Anything at all?"
"Well, there is one thing..."
"What is it, honey? Tell me."
"Can you... can you sing for me?"
"Sing for you? What do you want me to sing?"
"You know... my favorite lullaby from when I was little."
"Your favorite lullaby? Let me think... Oh, I remember! The Winnie the Pooh theme song!"
"Yes, that's the one! Can you please sing it for me, mom? Please?"
"Of course, I can.”
She heard her mother’s sweet and soothing voice begin to sing.
Winnie the Pooh
Winnie the Pooh
Tubby little cubby all stuffed with fluff
He's Winnie the Pooh
Winnie the Pooh
Willy nilly silly old bear
Claire closed her eyes and felt a wave of warmth and nostalgia wash over her. She remembered the times when she was a child, and her mother would tuck her in bed and sing that song to her. She remembered how safe and happy she felt in her mother's arms. She remembered how much she loved Winnie the Pooh and his friends in the Hundred Acre Wood.
She smiled and whispered along with her mother.
Winnie the Pooh
Winnie the Pooh
Tubby little cubby all stuffed with fluff
He's Winnie the Pooh
Winnie the Pooh
Willy nilly silly old bear
She felt a tear roll down her cheek, but it was not a tear of sadness or pain. It was a tear of gratitude and love.
She opened her eyes and said to her mother.
"Thank you, Mom. Thank you so much. You made me feel better."
"I'm glad to hear that, sweetheart. I love you very much."
"I love you too, Mom."
They said goodbye and hung up the phone.
Claire felt a surge of energy and hope in her body. She decided to get up from bed and make herself some tea.
She smiled and hummed the Winnie the Pooh theme song to herself.
She knew she would get well soon.
